It is with great sadness that I write this page. Our first Ridgeback Beau fell ill last Sunday (19th July) with what we thought was a shoulder injury.
As the week progressed Beau became more and more uncomfortable but never showed any great lameness or change of character, just being his usual self.
Over the next few days we were noticing small lumps on his body and had them checked at the vets as a precaution. The tests came back negative... Several more days past and Beau was showing no signs of recovery although he had brightened up a little by Thursday.
On Saturday Beau was showing signs of great pain and was not sleeping through the night at all. By Sunday night we noticed that his condition was worsening and his balance was getting worse. We took him to the vets on Monday morning as he was loosing the use of his back legs and was kept in over night. On Tuesday morning we took him to a specialist vets near by who were excellent. We spent a good 40 mins with Beau in the back of the car waiting to be seen. He was awake and alert and we enjoyed lots of hugs as he was no longer in pain. We left Beau in expert hands and at 2pm we were called with devastating news that Beau had multiple Tumors in his chest cavity.
We took the heart breaking decision to let him under go there and then as his condition was to far advanced for treatment.
Beau will be dearly missed by all those who had the pleasure of knowing him. He was a dog of big presence, big character and big heart. Stubborn in his ways, but a master of the hug and cuddle..... You will be Sorely missed and never forgotten. Wait for us on the other side Beau xxx
